During my childhood I was quite overweight, which followed me through high school and into adulthood although very active, healthy and strong. Then in 2005 an SUV backed into me while I was sitting in a chair at a local coffee house.
Although my spine was compressed for only seconds, the result has been years of pain and incapacity, even after several years of rehabilitation and spinal surgery. Seven months after the accident,
I was diagnosed with the connective tissue cancer Stromal Sarcoma. After radical surgery to remove highly invasive malignant cells, I was prescribed chemotherapy to be taken daily for the rest of my life, treatment that eventually required 2 additional surgeries to mitigate the damage done to my eyes, thyroid, bladder and adrenal glands. And I still have one more surgery to go which I'll take care of in 2017.
From 2005 to 2010, I gained close to eighty pounds (the chemo is prescribed for stage 4 breast cancer patients when there is more fear of the patient dying from malnutrition than the cancer). Finally, I went to a nutritionist who prescribed about 4 pounds of nutritious food a day, mostly fish, greens, veggies, nuts, seeds, and a fresh green drink that started each day. I also took 14 different supplements costing over $300 per month).
Because of the weight, chronic fatigue and pain, I did my own research about cancer and the cutting edge alternative therapies available, which included state of the art supplementation. My goal was to get off chemo ASAP.
Following is my daily routine allowing for maximum flexibility within the clean Paleo diet I enjoy. What I learned from my pseudo Paleo Lifestyle is that it isn't the food that's hurting us, it's the processing and the toxins added to the otherwise healthy proteins, carbs and fats. Even the healthiest of foods can have toxic ingredients (organic almond, rice, coconut and soy milks for example mostly contain a known carcinogen called Carrageenan) These toxins create havoc in the body (treated as a foreign substance) and puts enormous stress on the immune system. The older we get the more this is an issue. We must be ever vigilant to read labels, research our food and drinks for purity and maximum nutrition.
I start each day with a heap of gratitude for being alive, followed by a couple of glasses of spring water. Water upon waking is a wonderful way to nourish all the organs and cells of the body. See Water
